 ovani, ragazzi e ragazze palestinesi, molti di loro cresciuti nei territori
  palestinesi occupati, altri nei campi profughi del Libano, Giordania, Egit
 to, Siria, altri ancora in Paesi del mondo dove i palestinesi sono esiliati
 . Hanno studiato musica fin da piccoli, con determinazione, con gioia e con
  molti sacrifici: sono i 60 elementi della Palestine Youth Orchestra, in to
 ur in Italia dal 21 luglio al 2 agosto. Sar&agrave; la prima tourn&eacute;e
  italiana della PYO, fondata nel 2004 dall&rsquo;Edward Said National Conse
 rvatory of Music con lo scopo di riunire musicisti palestinesi residenti in
  tutto il mondo. La tourn&eacute;e in Italia &egrave; coordinata dal Conser
 vatorio di Musica &ldquo;Niccol&ograve; Paganini&rdquo; di Genova con la co
 llaborazione del Conservatorio di Musica &ldquo;Santa Cecilia&rdquo; di Rom
 a e della Oslo Philarmonic Orchestra.<br /><br />Con i loro violini e clari
 netti saranno a Levanto il 28 Luglio, a Genova il 29, a Firenze il 30, a Ro
 ma il 1&deg; agosto e a&nbsp; Ravello il 2 agosto. Quindici giovani musicis
 ti italiani si esibiranno insieme a questo fantastico gruppo.<br /><br />Un
 &rsquo;occasione imperdibile, un momento di grande libert&agrave; e condivi
 sione.&nbsp; Suoneranno per noi musica classica tradizionale, da Dvorak a B
 eethoven, ma anche significative composizioni della tradizione palestinese 
 e araba, che forse molti di noi non hanno mai ascoltato.<br /><br />Perch&e
 acute; la resistenza palestinese &egrave; fatta anche di questo: di una gra
 nde cultura e di una lunga tradizione che aiutano a capire tante cose. Sopr
 attutto, la consapevolezza di un popolo che ama la sua terra e vuole contin
 uare ad esistere, anche in nome di tutti coloro che non ci sono pi&ugrave;,
  che hanno dato la vita per la libert&agrave;, o che hanno lasciato comunqu
 e qualcosa: un luogo, anche solo dell&rsquo;anima, da coltivare e tramandar

 r />&hellip; Meet the musicians of the PYO<br /><br />Mahmoud Karzon, 18, V
 iolinist<br />from Al Amary camp, Palestine</strong><br /><br />Mahmoud gre
 w up in the Al Amary refugee camp on the outskirts of Ramallah. He began st
 udying the violin only 5 years ago through a programme initiated by the Al 
 Kamandjati Association. In a short time he has excelled to become a profici
 ent young performer, and last year won second prize in the Palestine Nation
 al Music Competition (strings category). He is the most recent student to l
 ead the Palestine Youth Orchestra. Mahmoud is beginning his studies at the 
 Toulouse conservatoire in France.<br /><strong><br />Jenna Barghouti, 19, V
 IOLIN<br />From Ramallah</strong><br /><br />Having been the recipient of n
 umerous awards in her native Palestine for both violin performance and comp
 osition, Jenna is pursuing her violin studies at the University of Indiana 
 in Bloomington, USA where she has completed her first year. She teaches at 
 an elementary school when not practicing the violin or studying music.<br /
 ><br /><strong>Layale Chaker, 21, VIOLIN<br />Palestinian living in Lebanon
 <br /></strong><br />Layale studied violin at the Lebanese Higher National 
 Conservatory of Music in Beirut. From a mixed Palestinian-Lebanese family, 
 Layale has never visited Palestine and the PYO provides her with a unique o
 pportunity to socialize and connect with other young Palestinians living in
  Palestine and abroad. Layale now studies at the CSNM Paris Conservatoire, 
 and spends much of her time focusing on composition studies at IRCAM.<br />
 <br /><strong>Naseem Halabi, 14, VIOLIN<br />From rural Palestine</strong><
 br /><br />Naseem is from a rural family living near to Ramallah. He began 
 studying on an outreach programme set up by the ESNCM, but later switched t
 o become a regular student of the conservatoire after showing early promise
  on the violin.<br /><strong><br />Dania al Hasani, 24, VIOLIN<br />From th
 e occupied Golan, living in Syria</strong><br /><br />Dania&rsquo;s family 
 are refugees from the occupied Golan region of Syria. Dania completed her s
 tudies in violin at the Syrian Higher National Institute for Music, and lat
 er completed a degree in English Literature at the University of Damascus. 
 Dania now continues her studies in Verona, Italy, where she is a violin stu
 dent at the conservatoire.<br /><br /><strong>Mostafa Saad, 13 &ndash; VIOL
 IN<br />Palestinian from the Galilee</strong><br /><br />Just 13 years old,
  Mostafa is from a<br />Palestinian Druze family living in a<br />small tow
 n in the Galilee region<br />(historic Palestine). Mostafa displays<br />tr
 emendous talent and musical<br />maturity for his age and performs<br />reg
 ularly in a string quartet with his<br />older brother Omar (viola), younge
 r<br />sister Tibah (cello), and younger<br />brother Ghandi (2nd violin).<
 br /><strong><br />Mohamed Najem, 26, CLARINET<br />From Bethlehem</strong>
 <br /><br />Mohamed studied at the ESNCM in<br />Bethlehem before winning a
  scholarship<br />to study at the Angers Conservatoire in<br />France, wher
 e he recently completed his<br />DEM. He has performed as a clarinetist in<
 br />the Palestine National Orchestra, and has<br />returned to Palestine t
 o teach clarinet at<br />the ESNCM in Ramallah and Bethlehem.<br />As well 
 as being an accomplished clarinet<br />player, he is also an exceptional na
 y<br />player (traditional Arabic pipe<br />instrument).<br /><strong><br /
 >Layth Sidiq, 19, VIOLIN<br />Iraqi refugee living in Jordan<br /></strong>
 <br />Layth comes from a musical family, his<br />father being the Iraqi co
 nductor Mohammed<br />Sidiq. After completing high school at<br />Cheethams
  School of Music in Manchester,<br />Layth was offered a scholarship to stu
 dy<br />violin at the Royal College of Music in<br />London, but chose inst
 ead to accept a full<br />scholarship to study film composition at the<br /
 >Berklee School of Music in the USA. Layth is<br />one of a small number of
  exchange students<br />from other Arab countries who continue to<br />take
  part regularly in the project. Layth is<br />also an able French Horn play
 er.<br /><strong><br />Tala Khoury, 22, VIOLA<br />From Ramallah<br /></str
 ong><br />After completing all the viola grades at the ESNCM<br />in Ramall
 ah, Tala chose to study nutrition at the<br />American University of Beirut
 . She now works as a<br />nutritionist for the World Health Organisation in
 <br />Ramallah, but continues to play regularly as an<br />amateur violist 
 in orchestras and other classical<br />groups in Palestine.<br /><strong><b
 r />Naseem Atrash, 20, CELLO<br />From Bethlehem<br /></strong><br />Having
  won many awards for cello<br />performance whilst a student at the<br />ES
 NCM in Bethlehem, Naseem now<br />studies performance at the Berklee School
 <br />of Music in the USA.<br /><strong><br />Faten Malek, 22, BASS<br />Pa
 lestinian Refugee living in Egypt</strong><br /><br />A Palestinian refugee
  living in Egypt,<br />Faten visited Palestine for the first<br />time in t
 he summer of 2011, when she<br />performed with the PYO as a bass<br />play
 er in Nablus and Ramallah. During<br />the rehearsals in Birzeit she was<br
  />presented with a Palestinian flag<br />signed by all members of the PYO.
 <br />Faten is a graduate of the Cairo<br />Conservatoire and plays at the 
 Cairo<br />Opera House and Cairo Symphony<br />Orchestra.<br /><strong><br 
 />Ahmed Eid, 24, BASS<br />From Ramallah</strong><br /><br />Ahmed studied 
 at the ESNCM in Ramallah,<br />before taking a scholarship in the Hochschul
 e<br />fur Musik in Cologne, Germany. He began his<br />contrabass studies 
 in Germany as a classical<br />student, later switching to jazz. Ahmed enjo
 ys<br />performing in many different styles including<br />Jazz, traditiona
 l Arabic, classical and hip-hop.<br /><strong><br />Hind Sabanekh, 24, TRUM
 PET<br />Palestinian living in Jordan</strong><br /><br />Hind graduated in
  trumpet from<br />the Academy of Music in Amman,<br />Jordan. She performs
  as principal<br />trumpet for the Amman Symphony<br />Orchestra and the PY
 O. She taught<br />as a trumpet teacher for one year at<br />the ESNCM in P
 alestine, but has<br />since had difficulties re-entering.</p>
