FREEDOM  FLOTILLA 2  Press Release

Athens – The Freedom Flotilla 2 Steering Committee met in Athens 9 and 10 April to continue preparations for the upcoming flotilla. Since the last meeting in Amsterdam, Israel has launched an international campaign of incitement against the Flotilla and its coalition members who are participating from around the world.

The Greek Ship to Gaza hosted this international meeting and emphasized that the Greek government has failed until now to pressure Israel to release the two Greek boats hijacked from international waters and held in Israel since 31st May 2010. The Greek Ship to Gaza has complied with all of the roadblocks put into place by Israel in order to bring back its ships, but our efforts have been to no avail. The Greek government should have pressured Israel to release immediately the ships, as Israel did for the Turkish ships in August, 2010.

Now, on the eve of the second Freedom Flotilla 2 voyage, the Israeli government is threatening to attack us again. As occurred last year before the first Freedom Flotilla, Israeli leaders are busy developing an atmosphere of hostility that should leave no doubt as to their intentions if and when they illegally attack this civilian flotilla.

Therefore, we are calling on all our governments, the international community and the United Nations not to succumb to Israel's intimidation. Governments need to fulfill their ‘responsibility to protect’ their own citizens. The threats against the Flotilla are not just at sea, but also in our home countries, as Israeli agencies are targeting individual groups and personalities. Flotilla partners insist that their governments take preemptive action to assure that Israel will not use force to interfere with this peaceful international effort to secure Palestinian human rights, human dignity and humanitarian assistance.

On May 10, Freedom Flotilla 2 partners will go to the European Parliament for meetings with MEPs as well as the United Nations and other international bodies, and to present Freedom Flotilla 2 and its goals. In addition to the partner organizations, there will also be participants from more than 50 countries on board the ships. This past week the European Jews for a Just Peace announced that they will join the Flotilla as a delegation and in sending humanitarian assistance to Gaza.

We are putting Israel on notice...
We are coming
We are unarmed
We are civilians
You have no right to threaten us
We expect to reach Gaza without any interference.

Communiqué de presse de la FLOTTILLE DE LA LIBERTÉ 2

Athènes – Le comité d’organisation de la Flottille de la liberté 2 s’est réuni à Athènes les 9 et 10 avril pour continuer les préparatifs de la prochaine flottille. Depuis la dernière réunion à Amsterdam, Israël a lancé une campagne internationale d’incitation contre la Flottille et ses membres de coalition qui y participent de partout dans le monde.
Le Bateau grec pour Gaza, qui était l’hôte de cette réunion internationale, a dénoncé l’inaction du gouvernement grec, devant le refus israélien de libérer les deux bateaux grecs détournés dans les eaux internationales et retenus en Israël depuis le 31 mai 2010. Le Bateau grec pour Gaza s’est plié à tous les contrôles exigés par Israël afin de rapatrier ses bateaux, mais nos efforts ont été sans succès. Le gouvernement grec aurait dû faire pression sur Israël pour qu’il relâche immédiatement les bateaux, comme il l’a fait pour les turcs par Israël dès août 2010.

Maintenant, à la veille du départ de la Flottille de la liberté 2, le gouvernement israélien menace à nouveau de nous attaquer. Tout comme l’année dernière avant la première Flottille de la liberté, les responsables israéliens s’efforcent de faire naître un climat d’hostilité qui ne laisse aucun doute sur leurs intentions d’attaquer illégalement cette flottille civile.

Par conséquent, nous demandons à tous les gouvernements, à la communauté internationale et aux Nations Unies de ne pas céder à l’intimidation israélienne. Les gouvernements ont le devoir de protéger leurs propres citoyens. En plus de nous menancer d’attaques en mer, les services de sécurité israéliens ciblent actuellement les groupes et les individus actifs au sein de la Flottille dans nos pays d’origine. Les partenaires de la flottille insistent donc pour que leurs gouvernements respectifs prennent les mesures préventives nécessaires afin de s’assurer qu’Israël n’utilisera pas la force contre un effort multinationales pacifique destiné à la protection des droits humains palestiniens, de la dignité humaine et de l’aide humanitaire.

Le 10 mai, les partenaires de la Flottille de la liberté 2 se rendront au Parlement européen pour rencontrer des Députés européens ainsi qu’avec des représentants des Nations Unies et d’autres organismes internationaux afin de présenter la Flottille de la liberté 2 et ses objectifs. En plus des organisations partenaires, des participants de plus de 50 pays seront également à bord des bateaux. La semaine passée, le groupe « Juifs européens pour une paix juste » a annoncé qu’il  se joindra à la Flottille en tant que délégation pour envoyer de l’aide humanitaire vers Gaza.
